Cheap Restaurants in Topeka

This post is all about cheap restaurants in Topeka. I will be talking about two different restaurants that are cheap or have student discounts. While these restaurants are on the cheaper side while still providing good food and a fun atmosphere.

The first restaurant is The Burger Stand at College Hill here in Topeka. This restaurant is a great place to go with friends and has a really fun atmosphere. It is located on College Hill, which is not too far from the Washburn University campus. They serve gourmet hamburgers and hot dogs along with various types of seasoned fries. They also have several vegetarian and salad options for those looking for something a little bit more healthy. Some of the unique things about the The Burger Stand is that they have outdoor patio seating and a back dining area which includes ping pong tables, foosball tables, and a pinball machine. The Burger Stand is on the pricier side, however they offer Washburn students a 10% discount and on Mondays they offer Washburn students half-price burgers, and Washburn faculty can get half-price burgers on Wednesdays.

The final restaurant is Fuzzy’s Taco Shop. Fuzzy’s, which originated in Lawrence, Kansas, just opened a location in Topeka in early August and has been super popular. Fuzzy’s is located on Southwest 17th, and is just down the street from Washburn. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so you can get your taco fix at any time of the day. Fuzzy’s offers many different kinds of tacos, nachos, and fajitas at a good price. They also have a very fun atmosphere and great service. While Fuzzy’s doesn’t offer a student discount they have an app where you can get points with every purchase and then you can redeem those points for various discounts.

I hope you check out both of these great restaurants!

  1. I've tried going to Fuzzy's a few times with some friends but every time we went it was packed so we always ended up going somewhere else to avoid the inevitable long wait time. I've heard great things about it and next time I go there I'm definitely going to man up and wait this time since it really seems well worth it!

  2. I love all these places you have mentioned to eat at. I agree with Alex, Fuzzy's is great but from personal experience I have always had to wait awhile! I also love Burger Stand. It is pretty expensive but the deal they have for Washburn students and staff on Monday's is great! A meal is usually only around $5 on Monday's.

  3. Thanks for the heads up on these joints. I always appreciate a good deal when it comes to food, especially burger joints. Speaking of burger joints, I believe the restaurant "Horizons" gives discounts to Washburn students is you show them your ID. It's located at 821 SW 21st, in case anyone wanted to know. Either way, I can't wait to try these places out sometime.

  4. if you haven't tried Bobo's yet, i highly recommend it. It is great food at a great price. it has even been on the food channel on one of those traveling food shows. Can't remember which one, maybe Diners Drive Ins and Dives. I'm very excited to see if you discover some treasures that I am unaware of. also i am very surprised how many people are unaware of the SRWC facilities. Keep up the good work!

Introduction

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog, A College Student's Guide to Topeka! My name is Melissa King and I'm currently a college student attending Washburn University in Topeka, KS. Throughout this semester I am going to be trying to find fun and exciting things to do in Topeka on a college student's budget. I decided to choose this topic because I'm new to Topeka and I want explore where I will be attending school for the next four years. I also chose this topic because many college students don't take advantage of what their college town has to offer and I hope this gives them some inspiration. Each post will be me talking about a free or cheap activity that I have found done in Topeka. Through this blog I hope to encourage you to explore Topeka and learn more about the Kansas capital! See you in Topeka!

Washburn Student Recreation and Wellness Center

Welcome back! The first place I will be talking about is the Student Recreation and Wellness Center here at Washburn University. The SRWC is free for Washburn students and is an awesome place for those looking to find a place to have fun while also taking care of yourself. On the first floor of the SRWC there is a three-court gym where students can play basketball, volleyball, badminton and other sports. Also on the first floor there is the infamous 25 foot rock wall where more adventurous students can challenge themselves. I haven't gotten the courage to do this yet, but my friends and I may in the future. The second floor is home to fitness loft and walking track. The fitness loft contains lots of fitness equipment ranging from treadmills and stair masters for beginners to weight sets for more hardcore exercisers. The walking track outlines the first floor, and overlooks Yager stadium where you can often watch various sporting events taking place. The SWRC also has many opp...
